Bachelor of Nursing

During your studies you'll learn theoretical and practical concepts regarding the roles and responsibilities of nurses in the context of health and health breakdown across the human lifespan. You'll have the opportunity to apply biological and behavioural sciences to nursing, develop an understanding of research principles and their relevance to the planning of nursing care, acquire practical skills in the clinical practice units, and undertake clinical placement in a variety of health care settings.

Duration
Three years full-time or equivalent part-time.
Note: 'part-time' refers to study load not to timetabling of evening classes.
Clinical Training
Throughout the course, you'll be placed in a range of health facilities and community settings. These will provide you with a variety of clinical experiences, opportunities to practise and to consider career options as a graduate nurse.
Professional Recognition
After successfully completing a UWS Nursing degree, you are qualified to apply for registration as a registered professional nurse with the Nurses and Midwives Board, NSW, and other Nurse Registration Boards in Australian states and territories (subject to meeting their criteria).

Assumed Knowledge
Any two units of English.
Recommended Studies
Any two units of mathematics and any two units of science.
Additional Selection Criteria
If you are not a 2007 Australian Year 12 student and have not completed studies at least to the level of the NSW HSC or equivalent, we recommend you sit the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). Enrolled Nurses are not required to sit STAT. All Enrolled Nurses have guaranteed entry.
Applicants who hold overseas professional nurse qualifications/registration or a related degree in the biological sciences are advised to seek advice relating to their eligibility to enter the Bachelor of Nursing (Graduate Entry) degree.
To be enrolled in this course you must comply with the occupational screening and vaccination policy of NSW Health at course commencement. You will also need to provide evidence of holding a current Senior First Aid Certificate (WorkCover Approved Course).
Advanced Standing
Applicants with the Enrolled Nurses Advanced Certificate or Certificate IV will receive credit of three specified core units and an elective unit. Applicants with other qualifications will be assessed for advanced standing on a case by case basis. Advanced standing could be granted where there is evidence of similar match in content per unit to previous studies. Advanced standing may also be subject to successful completion of a skills challenge test.
