What is postgraduate study?
Postgraduate study is university education at a higher level than a Bachelor’s degree. It involves more reading, self-pacing and academically demanding work.
Basically, postgraduate study is the range of courses and research available to students who have usually completed a first degree at university and in some instances have undertaken relevant work experience.
What are the benefits of postgraduate study?
Simply, postgraduate study provides you with the opportunities to learn about ‘what you really want to know’, especially if you undertake courses with a research content.
In some instances postgraduate study is a requirement to obtain entry into certain industry associations.
The academic, interpersonal and vocational skills, which you acquire and develop through your efforts in a postgraduate course, can also be harnessed to make you more employable, allow you to prosper in better paying jobs and even empower you to change your career direction.

What are the levels of postgraduate study?
Bachelor Honours:
As an entry into postgraduate research courses because such programs provide in-depth study and an introduction to the methodology and practice of independent research, while allowing you to engage in more advanced study in your chosen specialty. These programs are an important training degree for doctoral programs.
Coursework Postgraduate Studies at UWS:
Graduate Certificate
Graduate Certificates are usually designed for specific vocational purposes, ie to increase or broaden the skills and knowledge you have already obtained in your undergraduate program or provide vocational skills and knowledge in a new professional area.
Requirement for entiy is usually Bachelor Degree or relevant work experience.
Graduate Diploma
Graduate Diploma courses provide opportunities for students to develop a specialisation within a pre-determined area of knowledge. Graduate Diplomas are usually designed to cater for students who, in their current or proposed workplaces, will be expected to exercise broader responsibilities and be more directly accountable for the work of others. These postgraduate courses will usually contain prescribed subjects and electives, and in some cases minor research projects.
Requirement is usually Bachelor Degree, Graduate Certificate or relevant work experience.
Masters by Coursework
Offers study for professional development and advancement. Such degrees provide you with a specialisation and contain core and elective subjects in a wide range of areas to enable you to select the program of study that most suits your needs.
Requirement for entry is usually Bachelor Degree in a relevant or accepted discipline and/or relevant work experience. It may also be possible to enrol in Masters after completing a Graduate Certificate and/or Graduate Diploma.
