Bachelor of Arts - History and Political Thought Major

Since the revival of humanist studies in Renaissance Europe in the 15th century, universities have placed history and political thought at the heart of studies in the humanities. Through study of the political thought and social, political and cultural history of Australian, Asian and European societies, students gain knowledge and critical skills relevant to a variety of careers in education, government and non-government organisations.

Study of the writings of political thinkers from ancient Greece and Rome, such as Plato and Cicero, and the early modern period, such as Hobbes and Machiavelli, to noted 19th century figures, such as Hegel and Marx, prepare students to engage with contemporary issues of governance, such as sovereignty, power, opportunity, property, civic freedom and social justice.

Part time-study is only available to local students and is generally completed by day classes as there are limited night classes.
